Who We Are

The Tacoma Rangers Gaelic Athletic Club bring the fast-paced field games of Hurling, Camogie, and Gaelic Football to Pierce County. Fielding men's and women's teams, the Rangers play in summer tournaments across the PNW, and local scrimmages during the winter season.

Established in 2013, The Tacoma Rangers are a part of the Northwest Division of the US GAA.

What are Gaelic Sports?

Hurling is a field sport that has been played in Ireland for thousands of years. Camogie is the women’s version of the game, played the same way with minor rules differences. The objective of the game is for players to use a wooden stick called a hurley to hit a small ball called a sliotar between the opponent’s goalposts, either over the crossbar, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper. The sliotar can be moved by carrying in the hand for not more than four steps, bouncing or balancing on the hurley, struck in the air or on the ground, or passing by hitting the ball with an open hand.

Gaelic Football has similar rules, but is played with hands and feet and a round ball similar to a soccer ball. Again, the ladies’ version of the game has some minor rule differences than the men’s.
