The Tacoma Rangers were met with favorable weather for the first Grit City Pub League match-up of 2017 (the fourth of the Pub League) between Doyle’s Evergreen Irish and The Pacific Brewing Blacksheep. Good turn out from members new and old made for a match-up of 11 a side on the pitch at Jane Clark Park. A handful of supporters cheered on the Black and Green. The Rangers were divided evenly in skill and experience which made play both competitive and supportive.
The wet grass slowed the sliótar on the ground, but it did not slow the drive of the Blacksheep in hurling as John (3-0) netted two early goals on the run to take the lead. Perimeter points from Sean and James extended the lead, while Garrett and Ian (0-2) lifted a few over the bar for Green. By half-time, The Blacksheep led by 2-4 (10) to 0-2 (2).
By a handful of minutes into the second half, Brian (1-1) and Sean extended the lead with point shots, and Brian had netted a goal. Tom (2-0) scored a goal for the Evergreen before the Blacksheep found a rhythm from beyond the 20 meter line and Sean, Brian, Ed, Ellis and Charles pointed the sliótar. Brett and Ian lifted the ball for points in the late second half, and a second goal from Tom kept the score sporting with the Blacksheep as champions at 4-12(24) to 3-3(12). John’s hat-trick earned him high score honors in hurling.
