The Tacoma Rangers were met with favorable weather for the first Grit City Pub League match-up of 2017 (the fourth of the Pub League) between Doyle’s Evergreen Irish and The Pacific Brewing Blacksheep. Good turn out from members new and old made for a match-up of 11 a side on the pitch at Jane Clark Park. A handful of supporters cheered on the Black and Green. The Rangers were divided evenly in skill and experience which made play both competitive and supportive.
The match began with a tight defense on both sides until Ian (0-4) open up a lead for Evergreen in the fifth minute of play. Minutes later, Sean (2-1) scored an early goal to take back the lead. The Irish then found their stride with passing and by half-time Steve (0-3) had launched two points from the right wing, Tom scored a goal (2-1) and an additional two points by Ian gave the Evergreen a lead of 1-5 (8) to 1-0 (3).
The Blacksheep opened up the second half with points in quick succession by Anthony and Brian for winning a kick out and returning the ball over the bar. Goals from Jeremy and Tom maintained the Green lead for until the full-time whistle with additional second half points from Steve, Jesse, Tom, and Ian. The Evergreen Irish won the match at 3-8(17) to 2-4(10). A second half goal from Sean earned him a shared platform with Tom as high scores for the day, both with 2 goals and a point a piece.
