Defiance Cup Hurling – Aug. 19th

It’s your last chance to catch the Tacoma Rangers this season before we make our way to the USGAA Finals in San Francisco!

The Tacoma Rangers will be hosting the Seattle Gaels, Columbia Red Branch, and Willamette Hurling Club at Ft. Steilacoom Park in Lakewood this Saturday, Aug. 19th, for the last tournament of the NW Division’s 2017  season.

Following the tournament, the trophy will be presented at the afterparty, held by sponsors Pacific Brewing & Malting in downtown Tacoma.

Defiance Cup – Tacoma, Aug. 5th

Gaelic Football returns to Tacoma this Saturday, Aug. 5, as the Rangers host the Defiance Cup at Vassault Park in Tacoma, beginning at 10am. This year’s competitors include the Tacoma Rangers, Seattle Gaels, Portland Eireannach, and Thurston County.

Following the tournament, teams will re-gather at the Rangers’ sponsors, Pacific Brewing & Malting on Pacific Ave. in Downtown Tacoma for the trophy presentation and pints.

Gorge Cup – Portland, July 22nd

This Saturday, the Tacoma Rangers will be traveling to Portland to compete in the Gorge Cup, held at Northgate Park, 10am. The Rangers will be participating in both the Hurling and Gaelic Football competitions during their last NW tournament on the road in 2017.

The entire rest of the NW Division is expected to attend, with Tacoma competing against hosts Columbia Red Branch, the Seattle Gaels, the Thomas Meaghers from Missoula, Benton Brigade, and Willamette in Hurling and against Portland Eireannach and the Seattle Gaels in Gaelic Football.

The tournament’s after party will be held at On Deck in the Pearl District (there are 2 located across town from each other, so make sure you’re headed to the right one).

Up the Rangers!

July Pub League

It’s that time again for the Tacoma Rangers’ Monthly Pub League competition! Matches will once again be played at Jane Clark Park in North Tacoma, beginning at 11am.

July’s match-ups will pit the Tacoma Rangers in a Gaelic Football rematch against a traveling Olympia side. Gaelic Football will be followed by the return of a classic Pac Brewing Black Sheep v. Doyle’s Evergreens Hurling match.

June Pub League

The Tacoma Rangers will hold their fiercely-contested, monthly Pub League matches on June 17th, at Jane Clark Park beginning at 11am. Once again, the Pac Brewing Black Sheep will take on the Doyle’s Evergreens.

This weekend will also look to feature an appearance from a developing club starting up in Olympia, who will bring a side to kick off the day with a Gaelic Football match. Following this battle from different sides of the Nisqually, the Rangers will compete against each other in a Hurling match, set for roughly 12pm.

Come on over the Jane Clark Park to see Tacoma’s finest GAA club in action!

Corvallis Bound

The Tacoma Rangers will be traveling down to Corvallis, OR in defense of the Willamette Cup! Last May, the Rangers returned home with their first cup, which was proudly on display the past year at sponsors Pacific Brewing & Malting. A contingent of around 20 Rangers will be making their way south between tonight and early tomorrow morning.

It’s a bit of a haul from Tacoma, but for anyone interested in attending the competition, the Willamette Cup Tournament will be held at the Crystal Lake Sports Center in Corvallis, OR. The first match at 10am and the Rangers will first play at 11am.

When Life Gives You Goals…

Two months ago, someone decided it would be a great idea to drive through the fence, through the goals, and onto the field at Jane Clark Park – one of Metro Parks Tacoma’s facilities and the practice field for the Tacoma Rangers. You can see the aftermath in the image at the top of the page, where one goal was completely destroyed and the other damaged at a not-entirely-insignificant structural point. The somewhat-damaged goal was repaired with spare parts, but replacing its destroyed counterpart was going to require a little ingenuity.

Another goal was discovered while coordinating with Metro Parks and NorTac, sitting unused at nearby Vassault Park and waiting for removal. Being opportunists, the Rangers took it upon themselves to dismantle, walk, and reassemble the goal 1 mile away the only way Tacomans know how – with some grit.

Grit City Opener 4-1-17

On April 1st, the Tacoma Rangers will be hosting a friendly tournament at Ft. Steilacoom Park to kick off the NW Division’s 2017 GAA season!

Teams attending the event will be the Seattle Gaels, Columbia Red Branch, Portland Eireannach, and Benton Brigade. The day’s competitions will feature both Hurling and Gaelic Football, beginning at 10am with the final schedule TBD (updates coming soon!).

Matches will be played on two fields, one by the entrance to the park and one towards the far side that is reached by following the horseshoe around  Ft. Steilacoom until arriving at a small parking lot. Stop by throughout the day to witness some exciting grassroots sports as these teams go head to head. The road to the 2017 USGAA Finals in San Francisco starts here!

St. Paddy’s Weekend

3/17 – 3/19

The Rangers have an action-packed few days coming up – Pub Crawl, Roller Derby, and Pub League all rolled into one body-shattering weekend.

Pub Crawl – Fri. 3/17
First up, on St. Patrick’s Day is the Pub Crawl. We’ll be starting at 7 Seas in downtown Tacoma, singing (and drinking!) our way north until ultimately ending at Pacific Brewing and Malting.  Check out the event page for a rough timeline and join us along the way.

Femme Fianna Championship Bout – Sat. 3/18
On Saturday, we’re pulling out all the stops to support our sister club, Femme Fianna as they once again battle for the championship. The Rangers will be out in force and manning our very own section in the stands cheering them towards victory. See the event page or go buy your tickets now. We will also be headed back to their sponsor to celebrate (hopefully!) their victory.

Rangers Pub League – Sun. 3/19
Finally, on Sunday is another installment of our local Pub League. The Black Sheep and Evergreen’s (entirely fictional) rivalry is deadlocked with equal points across both sports. It’s the last event before the official season opens with Tacoma’s annual invitational tournament; the Grit City Opener.

It going to be a fantastic weekend and we hope to see as many of you as we can.

Up the Rangers!

Never unintentionally miss another event again! We’re always on the move, doing things in the community like running in the Liliir Project 5k. We face off against each other in our monthly Pub League matches and fiercely compete against the rest of the division in tournaments both friendly and competitive.

It’s not all about the competition though. It’s also important to us to support other amateur athletics like our ‘sister’ club, Roller Derby superstars, Femme Fianna. Especially as they soon compete to retain the championship title.

How can we possibly facilitate your attendance, besides being hilariously fun to hang with? By getting you our event calendars in an easily consumable form!

If you use Office365, or Outlook for the web this article will walk you through adding a web calendar.

Google Calendar

While arguably more convenient and ubiquitous, Google’s implementation of the webcal standard leaves much to be desired. If you are a Google Calendar (and/or Android) user you have sort of an extra hoop to jump through. Basically, if you do it the ‘right’ way by going the linked route, your times will be all screwy because Google converts them all to GMT-0…as if you cared.

Follow the directions here for the desktop or here for Android (choose ‘Add using a link’ for either) and use the following URLs:
